Functional Skills Tutor
Our Client is currently seeking an experienced, part time Functional Skills Tutor for their traineeship programme, which will involve working as part of a small team on the Traineeship 16 to 19 study programme to provide students with a structured and challenging learning programme to support their development and progression in line with their career plans. This role is for 7.5 hours a week on a fixed term contract until August 2023.
The objective is to plan and deliver a range of functional skills qualifications, as part of the Traineeship project, to a caseload of 16 to 19 year olds who want to improve their skills, up to level two in:
- English
- Maths
You will also need to identify and manage any additional needs or barriers to learning and provide one-to-one support as required to participants, who may have learning difficulties and disabilities.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out skills assessments, using ForSkills Initial Assessment & Diagnostic Tool
- Preparation and delivery of all group teaching sessions, design learning plans to suit the needs and abilities of students
- Prepare teaching and resource materials
- Completion of learner inductions, reviews and sign ups as required
- Process registrations, book tests and carry out invigilation in line with NCFE Awarding Body requirements.
- Provide tutorial guidance and individual support where required
- Identify development needs through initial assessment and plan training accordingly including devising lesson plans and a scheme of work
- Manage and meet own targets that meet projects outputs and results
- Produce reports for project information and learner tracking and data on progress and performance of the project, keeping robust records to ESF standards
- Support the project to deliver a range of courses in any periods of downtime e.g. marking examination papers
- Attend team meetings as required.
- Work as part of a team to ensure the monitoring system is maintained to provide the key information, statistics and reports required.
- Ensure the effective sharing of information between key partners having regard to relevant legislation in respect of confidentiality and data protection.
Knowledge, Skill & Experience Required
- Recognised Teaching qualification PTLLs/CTTLS /DTLL’s or equivalent
- Experience of delivering Functional skills in English and Maths, up to and including level 2
- Functional Skills Level 2 qualification
- Ability to work flexibly including evenings and weekends where necessary
- Proven experience in engaging with, and the ability to get on well with, a diverse range of people and a verifiable ability to mentor, motivate and demonstrate energy and vision
- Self-motivated with a “can do‟ attitude, able to organise and prioritise own workload and be able to work alone, and with colleagues, without the need for close supervision.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills with the ability to influence, inspires individuals including patience and tact when working with those who may lack confidence
- Planning skills and creativity to prepare interesting activities to improve learners' skills including the ability to motivate and encourage learners to continue with their studies
- Proven team player with the ability to work effectively under pressure, managing and responding to shifting priorities
- Ability to prepare reports and data on progress and performance of the programme and deliver reports in a variety of formats.
- Good general education including numeracy, literacy and writing skills
- Ability to use a range of ICT packages including word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, PowerPoint, Outlook, email and the internet
- A strong commitment towards Equality and Diversity principles
- Full driving licence and own transport
Desirable:
- Assessors/Verification qualification
- IAG qualification up to Level 4
- Experience in working with disadvantaged groups
