We are currently recruiting for a Horticulture Apprenticeship (Level 2) to join our organisation.
This role offers a salary of £8607 per annum, therefore offers the opportunity to earn whilst you learn. The wage will increase to NMW following the initial 12 months for aged 19 or over.
The role is working Monday to Friday 37 hours per week. The course is expected to last up to 24 months not including the EPA, this may add a further 3 months onto the course length.
As the Horticulture Apprentice, you will work with a team of paid staff and volunteers on our allotment, gardening and maintenance projects, delivered across North Lincolnshire.
Carry out a range of gardening relates activities, using machinery as required
Complete a Level 2 Horticulture apprenticeship with Bishop Burton College attending college as required, learning the following:
- Principles of plant growth and development
- Plant nutrition requirements
- Ways to reduce waste
- How to use equipment correctly
- Cultivating soils for differing purposes
- Controlling plant pests and diseases
- Identifying plants.
Main job responsibilities:
Growing fruit and vegetables
Mowing and strimming
Edging / hard surface clearance
Digging of borders
Routine Inspections of machinery
Participate in personal support and supervision; undertake personal development training as appropriate to the post.
Undertake other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grading of the post as considered appropriate.
Have a keen interest in gardening.
Have the ability to use lawnmowers and a variety of gardening tools.
Good communication skills.
Enjoy working as part of a team and having the ability to act under own initiative in investigating and finding the appropriate solutions to problems.
Well-presented, polite and tactful.
Ability to relate to people at all levels in a friendly and professional manner.
Ability to plan and work within agreed timeframes.
A strong commitment towards Equality and Diversity principles
You must have GCSE English and Maths at grade D or 3 or equivalent. You must also pass an initial assessment, secure work within horticulture and landscaping as an apprentice and have one satisfactory reference.
