Location: Scunthorpe (Site‑based)
Contract: Temporary
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay: £13.26 per hour
Join a dedicated Waste Transfer Station team where you’ll play a key role in the safe and efficient movement of waste materials. This role is ideal for someone with strong machine‑operation skills who enjoys practical, hands‑on work in a busy industrial environment.
Although primarily based at the Waste Transfer Station, you may also support other waste‑service operations when required.
Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy plant machinery, including:
Loading Shovel
Telehandler (J3)
JCB 5CX
- Drive machinery to move, sort and load waste materials safely and efficiently.
- Load vehicles with bulk waste, ensuring correct material handling and maximising payloads.
- Drive vans and small refuse collection vehicles (up to 7.5 tonnes).
- Maintain safe working areas, including clearing bays, managing stockpiles and ensuring materials are stored appropriately.
- Monitor waste levels and communicate with supervisors to arrange collections or vehicle movements.
- Carry out daily machinery checks, reporting defects and ensuring equipment is operated in line with safety standards.
- Support weighbridge or site‑based recording systems as required (training can be provided).
- Assist with general site operations, including manual handling tasks and maintaining a clean, safe working environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery in an industrial, construction or waste‑management environment.
- Ability to safely operate:
Loading Shovel
Telehandler J3
JCB 5CX
- Strong awareness of health & safety and safe‑working practices.
- Experience working in fast‑paced, physically demanding environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Literate and numerate, able to complete basic records.
- Flexible, reliable and able to adapt to changing workloads.
Desirable
- Experience working in a waste transfer station or under environmental‑permit conditions.
- Experience loading vehicles, sorting waste streams or managing stockpiles.
- Weighbridge experience.
- WAMITAB qualification.
- Certificates of competence for additional plant or machinery.
