Overall Purpose of Job

To carry out bricklaying and plastering tasks to a high standard in occupied and empty properties, in a courteous and polite manner and in accordance with the relevant safety regulations and organisational policies and procedures

Main Responsibilities

  • To undertake internal and external bricklaying works to properties and other buildings including but not limited to:
    • Repairs to brickwork
    • Laying or levelling concrete floors
    • Laying or levelling paving slabs and edging
    • Lay or renew concrete paths
    • Building and repairing brick corners, pillars and piers
    • Building and repairing cavity walls
    • Pointing for facework
    • Creating or bricking up door and window openings
    • Creating ramps and steps and
    • Repairing/replacing damp courses
    • Install and maintain balustrades
    • Install and repair fencing and fence posts
    • Carry out drainage repairs
    • Remove, install and repair floor and wall tiling involving ceramic and thermoplastic tiles
  • Identify and rectify defects in brickwork as required and take the necessary remedial actions.
  • To undertake internal and external plastering and rendering works to properties and other buildings including but not limited to:
    • Mixing plastering materials
    • Cutting and fixing plasterboard to walls and ceilings
    • To cut and fix angle beads around window and door reveals
    • To prepare surfaces before plastering
    • To plaster walls, ceilings and reveals using all types of plaster and plasterboard.
    • To render walls
    • Remove replace/ repair damaged plasterwork
    • To carry out render repairs to properties externally and coat with proprietary textured coatings.
  • To carry out other minor repairs to walls in the course of making them suitable for painting/decorating.
  • Identification and categorisation of damp and mould root causes.
  • Development and delivery of works required to rectify damp and mould within skill set.
  • To be customer focused at all times and have the ability to communicate and interact with people at all levels.
  • To work with various forms of technology including an iPad to ensure tasks are deployed and completed correctly and efficiently.
  • The post holder will be expected to be aware of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children and report any concerns via Ongo’s Safeguarding policies and procedures.

 

Knowledge, Skill & Experience Required

  • Relevant trade qualifications in bricklaying/ 5 years bricklaying experience
  • City & Guilds - Level 2 Certificate in Plastering.
  • Experience of property repairs, construction techniques and maintenance work
  • Knowledge in the use and maintenance of tools, plant and machinery relevant to the trade
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety at Work practices
  • Ability to carry out dynamic risk assessments.
  • Understanding of COSHH regulations
  • Customer Care orientated and dedicated to the provision of a high-quality service.
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Basic IT skills
